KeyTrack®
Automated phenotyping centre
Lemnatec and KeyGene have joint forces by setting up a joint plant phenomics centre in a new greenhouse with state of the art technologies. Combining the strength of Lemnatec’s imaging platform, Scanalyzer™ 3D, and KeyGene’s analysis platform, KeyTrack®, we can now offer new high throughput capabilities for robust and objective screening of plant populations.
The plants can be imaged from the top and the side in 1 to 360 steps. The images technology used is RGB, NIR and FIR. These images are stored in a large database ready for later analysis. With these imaging techniques, a large variety of digital traits can be captured, like shape, color, architecture structure, leaf area, water content, etc..
Short overview of all the facility and options:
- 300m2 robust high throughput phenotyping facility;
- 1100 pots, divided in 2 compartments, climate controlled;
- Plant up to 3m heights;
- Using RGB, NIR and FIR imaging technologies;
- A specialized Scanalyzer software to manage experiment operations;
- A mixture of specialized and proprietary software tools for image and trait analysis;
- Water supply controlled at individual plant level;
- In general, experiments run in 3 to 5 weeks cycles.
How it works
High quality phenotyping is essential for association studies. To be able to link molecular data to phenotypic observations, the data used for statistical analysis need to be of high quality.
The LemnaTec system provides the breeder and scientists with an automated phenotyping system that will produce consistent datasets amenable to statistical analysis and association mapping.
Benefits
- Controlled environment to study traits that are difficult to phenotype in the field;
- Consistent data collection, providing datasets amenable to statistical analysis.
Deliverables
- Set of pictures of developing plants;
- Statistical analysis of the collected data sets.
